This week we were asked to create a piece of art in the medium of our choice using a divination tool. I chose astrology, natal or birth charts specifically.
"The birth chart is a snapshot of the sky at your moment of birth."
Natal charts are usually represented by black and white circles and lines and a bunch of textual information. Even currently popular Co-star network has the same style. It always was interesting to me whether it is possible to represent the chart in a more engaging way while maintaining the information. So I used Illustrator to create something like a poster that one can put on their wall if they want. I'd certainly would cuz I can hardly remember the information natal charts provide, but this poster summarizes it in a clear and concise way.
In a process of creating this I really tried to understand what particular information means. For instance, when it says "Neptune is in Capricorn and in the first house", what does it mean? So firstly, planets travel around the sun passing all 12 zodiac signs, but it takes them a different amount of time depending on the speed and motion. While Mars stays in each sign for about 1.5 moths, Jupiter stays the whole year in one sign. Hence, the result of the planet in terms of zodiac depends on the planet's position and all of them represent our different qualities.
"Mercury in serious Capricorn, for instance, will communicate logically and rationally; Venus in elusive Scorpio adores mysterious romance; Mars in protective Cancer tends to have an indirect approach to battle."
Now, the house, ugh..that one was hard to comprehend. The zodiac signs show how the planets express themselves, and the houses show where these energies occur. As I understood, every planet is positioned in a particular house. Overall, there are 12 houses with each of them ruling certain areas of life, ideas, types of people and relationships, and life circumstances.
"Houses reflect the earth’s own 24-hour rotation around its axis...it is essential to use your correct time of birth when calculating your chart"
The houses can show gifts and obstacles you will get during this lifetime. That's why it's important to know the correct time of birth. It also shows all kind of nuances of our personalities.
"Is Venus-Scorpio in the Second House of material objects, which would make an individual especially drawn to financially stable lovers? Or is Venus-Scorpio in the Ninth House of travel, which would signify a penchant for long-distance romance?"
Overall, I realized I have a lot to learn because this is a whole system that you need to understand and remember houses and zodiac signs, and I decided to learn it step by step. There is a wonderful journey into astrology ahead of me!
