My task this week was to create a palette of five colors that resonate with me and use them in four compositions. That was a very therapeutical task, as I didn't even think about compositions and was expressing something internal. In the first one I wanted to show how something dangerous can look less so in the composition with gentle colors. And its parallel with life when people may wear masks to cover who they really are. In the second one I wanted to show the connection between humans and nature, as we often forget how much we depend on the environment. The third one was inspired by mandala that often symbolically represent the Universe. And the forth one was based on the analysis of people in my life and how I'm connected to them. Blue represents peaceful and mutually beneficial connections, while red - toxicity or some arguments. Purple triangle show people themselves, but none of them are full. From my perspective, people always develop and the star shaped holes show the parts that I can help the to fill or guide them towards it. At the end, I realized that I unintentionally put triangles in such a way that they form the letter "K". So I put a green line representing me which has holes in it too. It shows the times when I give too much to other people and become unbalanced myself.
Color palette and compositions
Reflection on the podcast about color:
I’m shocked. I now can’t look at the colored material without thinking where it came from. I mean the fact that you probably taste bug parts when you eat something red colored is really disturbing. My life will never be the same after this podcast. And I’m really sad that this once again proves how selfish humanity can be… Getting species of insects or shellfish almost to their extinction just to have a cloth that would be particularly colored, really? I might sound stupid, but I actually thought we were getting colors from stones, gems, flowers, chemicals or mud. I guess ignorance is a bliss sometimes. And maybe (just maybe) the time when people died because of the poisonous green color was a Karmic lesson. The lesson that we have never learned. But it was also astonishing to realize how perceptions have changed through time. How we moved from prosecuting people when they wore a particular color to wearing any shade we want. And I still have a question about how red colors influence the sport game, so that the team in red has a higher chance of winning? Also, a point about how different languages develop in terms of their color was so relevant to my experience. In Russia the subway is color coded for convenience. But there are two shades of blue used and I believe three pairs of blue colored satiations have the identical names. So, a lot of times foreign people get really confused. When they ask what line “this” station is and receive the reply “oh it’s blue”, they ask in return which blue. And we ask in return what station do they mean because there’re two of them with the same name and both of them are blue. And it’s a lot of fun for local people, so I guess that’s the reason why they haven’t changed it.
